I got a text from Etrac007 this morning, and it pushed me off the fence and into the hunt. Got a bit of a late start, but I wasn't as late as Bob. ;D It was good to see seven other hunters there out having a good time. While I was in the woods watching a couple of deer, a hawk silently swooped from left to right about 25 feet in front of me and about 15 feet off the ground. It was the first time I'd seen one flying low in the trees, and it was a cool sight!

About 45 minutes into swinging, I got a signal that turned out to be a dime.

I was extra careful washing the dirt off, because the area has been known to produce seated coins.

It wasn't a seated this time, but a '20 D Merc in nice shape. As Bob would say, "luck of the draw" I guess - It was the first signal I dug as I crossed into a fresh area, and all of the others around it were screwcaps. If I had dug the caps first, I might have blown off digging the dime. I told Goio I'd be happy to find just one silver, and I am!

Thanks for checking her out!

Great merc buddy!!! I know what you mean seeing one swooping in real close to you, 3 weeks ago when we were out in the woods I saw my first owl ever out in the woods. I was diggin a target when I looked up and saw a brown owl (I don't know what kind but it was a brown "typical" one) that flew in from the tree tops and landed on an old log maybe 20 feet from me and sat and watched me for a while. I kept diggin my target and thought that it would be cool to get it on video after a few min, then I tried to get my camera out to video it but by the time I got to it it decided to fly off. :-[

I'd be happy finding one that nice too Neil, looks great!

Hey Kermit, marsh owls are both day and night owls so that may be what you saw. We have lots of them out here, they like roosting near where I work and we get to hear them all night long.

Congrats, that mercs a beauty Neil!

Jez another silver.....WTG

I got my last few like that....dig the first few signals and you get a keeper.. then dig a bunch of screw caps and the skip over a few signals that might have been a keeper....

You got to be lucky sometimes.....Like the lottery....

Nice Merc Neil!
