Awesome find and spectacular view from your house! You should try to sell prints of that!

Nice badge. There are a couple of good museums in Tonopah (Nye County). Why not send a photo of your badge to the curator at the Central Nevada Museum and ask her about it? I bet they would be eager to try to find out some info for you. You can email the museum at
cnmuseum@citlink.net

I agree! Thats a nice find. Tsgman

Great find!! This site might help you out in making some contact if you wish. They do not have too much on their history posted to the website, but is my guess is right, you may have found the County's first deputy's badge. But then again I could be wrong... Great find.

Hey, Great fInd at the least.

If you found that on Private Property and can prove it contact whoever you want. But If you found that on Public Land the Powers that be can take it from you. There are a number of Laws and Acts that allow that, to mention one, the 1906 Antiquites Act.

They claimed this meteorite from Three Prospectors. Take a look at this link:

I have already talked to both of the locaL musems here in tonopah, and they do not keep records so i went to the sheriffs department and they sent me to Carson city.......a little nye county history is due here.....belmont was the first county seat, up until 1902 or so then it was passed to tonopah, the first sheriff of tonopah was also the first nye county sheriff mudered...killed in a gun fight in manhattan, wyatt erp was a pall barrer at his funerl.....the name slips my mind right now.......but i cant prove as of yet if this was his badge....still a work in progress......
happy hunting

Was thinking abut what you had said about the first Sheriff being killed. Not too sure it was his badge. His would not of had Deputy written in it if he was the Sheriff, but it sounds like you are on the right track... I am surprised the Sheriff's Office did not know much about the badge. They are normally good about keeping track of the history of their badges and patches. Good luck to you and keep us up to date!
