I actually had a couple hours today after my annual physical so I hit the pasture beside my house where I found the clipped Spanish silver last month. It's a big area so I was checking out some areas that I only glazed over. I was finding the typical pasture and homesite stuff until the last target. I increased the sensitivity of my machine and reduced the discrimination and started a slow and steady sweep. I got a decent yet scratchy tone but it certainly sounded diggable. When I flipped it out I thought it was a fishscale (Canadian silver 5 cent) and was happy with that. I blew a little dirt off and saw a crown on one side, consistent with a fishscale but on the other I saw a King and knew it wasn't a fishie! It's an 1836 British Guiana 1/4 Guilder which I had never even heard of...but was glad to dig!

Managed a couple buckles, a keg spigot and the usual brick-a-brack.

Romeo oh romeo!!!

Awesome finds man...

I've seen alot of coins on this site, but that's the first time I've seen one of those. Awesome silver.

You are the axe maaaaaster! :notworthy:

Seasons almost done for us.... but next year, I'm coming up for a visit!

I dig all the big iron signals...always looking for more trade axes and that first cannonball.

Come on over...ferry lands within 30 minutes of my town so I'll even pick you up!

It's always cool to dig that era of silver because it's such an in between period for the popular circulation coins you really never know what it will be. In other words you could get something strange like a 1/4 Guilder.

Much better than a fishscale to boot!

I would think it will be hard to find one of those in the states .Love that coin never seen one.Nice find Rob :coffee2:

I always like to see something different , and that fits the bill for sure! neat old coin, you'll have to show me where mine is going to be ;D

No problemo! This is a weird field...very international. So far I have a Spanish silver, a Canadian silver, a British Guiana Silver, a New Brunswick Copper, a Quebec Copper, an Irish copper and an assortment of LCs...

I know there is more there but I'll have a couple back-ups on hand as well. Do you like history? ;D
do I like history? yeah I guess so, as long as it comes peppered with silver coins :D

nice Silver .... congrats !

missed this,,,,

that silver is different, like you I've never heard of it until now :icon_thumright:

Pickle fork? leather awl? fickle tine of fate? Whatever it is, it's cool......NGE

Their is just no guessing what you will pull up on that site your on. I wonder if the guilder is common to a particular area where it was minted. It might give you a few clues to who was on the site way back when. All in all you had a great hunt, a great mix of finds.

James.
