first image shows a crooked piece

second image shows how the wrench can bend the shaft
these wrenches were usually about 18" long and had two or three holes
you can see how leverage can be applied after moistening and then heating

I have broken a few of these as they are so brittle now
I think you had a lot of leverage when the bone was green

glad you guys understand
it is kind of like using the box end from a box end wrench when more leverage is needed

the reason I used a small branch for the demonstration is that I have broke several trying this with thicker pieces

the bone get more brittle as it gets older
