Actually the book about the sinking in 1857 of the SS Central America is called " Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea" by Gary Kinder. The recovery 131 years later by Tommy Thompson and his salvage crew in 1988 was worth about $1 billion, and they had only recovered about 60% of the gold that was estimated to be aboard. The find was worth much more than just the value of gold because of the association of the coins and ingots with the California gold rush 1849 to 1855. Interesting coincidence that the first gold was brought up by their recovery vehicle "Nemo" on Sept 11, the very day that the ship first took on water in the hurricane off the Carolinas.
