Hey guys and gals..... Hey..at the risk of upsetting someone out there, I was wondering if there are any Oregon hunters out there and if so.....where do you dump..The only reason I ask is so I dont go through your duds and you wont go through mine. I am not trying to start any turf wars or anything but just figured if we could cooperate, we might all do better??? Just a question. I will gladly let you know where I dump...

ANyway, I have also been going through my Ikes and any help with what to hold on to would be a huge help. Thanks a ton guys....

You might get shot for asking those types of questions....they wanted to tar and feather me. I had the same reasoning as you did. Somehow, they think they will be tracked down or robbed. :)

Sorry, I'm not in Oregon.

Here we go again...................

If you happen to find a 1973 it is no good it has rabies and you should send it to me right away.

Seriously keep S minmarks. Weight all 74 and 77 some were made of silver by mistake. Look for the variety 2 on the 72. Also you might look for a peg leg R on the 72.

Anyone else think of anything?

It took me $3800 worth to find a 1973.

Going though others dumps is just part of the game.
I have found more silver going though dumps though. A lot of dumpers dont ever ask there dump bank for halves. I scored quite a few when I went into a bank and they told me this story about this old guy who brings in halves and they run them though the counter blah blah blah. turns out they had $600 in hand wraps in the back, I took em, and a few of them were solid rolls of silver. And yes, about $500 of it was someones rolled dumps, nothing, But the other rolls that were deposited by some other customer...well, Just because you dump somewhere, does not mean that silver depositors will not "dump" there too.
There is no way to know and or stop where the next silver deposit is going to be. And yes, it may be at your dump bank. And no, there is nothing you can do about it.
I picked up $1900 in "dumps" a few months back, yes, a lot of barren rolls, But also quite a few solid rolls of silver. So the best advise I can give you is this. We are all too small to control anything. So just go with whats there and how it goes. Just accept it and best of luck.

Your correct . I bought 5 boxs worth Halfs and saw where they marked tons of halfs with markers in the mix. I saw those in other boxs before . Those were same marks where silver hunters marked there halfs. It made think why they do it or waste time doing it. In the mix I pulled 20 bucks on face on silver coins aslong I got to see all there marked up half dollars. It got me why they marked all those halfs. Its gets all mixed up when they rebox all those coins in fedboxs or new fresh boxs. If I had time I would remove all those marked up halfs and clean them off and dump them to mess up those other silver hunters. Soak all there coins in acid or strong cleaner to clean all those markers off. I would be doing service for memory for Jfk if start cleaning all his coins I ever find where silver hunters ruined his memory. Why do it?

There are some CRH who really believe that marking halves will somehow take them out of circulation or they think that its a closed loop, They really believe that no new silver enters the system or that there is a "source" or magical place that puts silver in, and once they mark it they will never see silver with those coins again so why bother hunting them?
These are control freaks who think they can control it. They dont realize how small they are, and they feel they have to mark EVERY half they touch. Its behavior similar to that of an animal or a dog that has to "mark" its territory.
These people really do think that once they have "cleaned out" an area they got it all and nothing new comes in. I see it all the time when there are small caches of rolls that are all the same and all the same mark, obvious dumps of say $200 to $300, They may think thats a lot of coins and money. But when the bank has $1800 in back and there dumps are on top of it, and someone like me comes though and gets them all...well the idiot who dumped there probably never realized they were dumping on top of silver or that they were dumping with silver.
Some argue that you can track the movement of coins and see it it pops up again. or see how long it takes to get your dumps back in boxes. this is obviously going to happen.
The best argument I can make for marking halves would be to track but doing it only with a few coins since we know that they all get rerolled together anyway.
A line down the side of any half is going to be the same mark that someone else uses. No matter how creative you think you are. how does a marker know its there own marks? or marks made years ago? YOU DONT!
So its even more pointless. Going beyond that there is no organization to marking as you cant track dates, or other info.

If someone must mark coins it should be done in an intelligent manner. Use a sticker that is UNIQUE! maybe only mark 10 in a box. If you get them back, you can prove to yourself that yes you get them back. Big deal. and yes you can prove that marking halves does not keep silver from entering the system. Yes you can find walkers next to your marked coin.
Things that would work would be a piece of tape, A unique sicker or address label or even price tag sicker. If you took a price tag maker and put the date on there with a letter of say your last name. You could actually do something that other animal type markers can not.
Like, find out how fast they are coming back too you from that dump. Find out if halves you Spent are making it back to the fed or just being saved. etc.

To remove the piss marks from the coins since it was sharpie all you need is a cleaning solvent.
things that work well are
Acetone, But it smells bad
Rubbing alcohol. Much better
Or if you need a lot of something cheap, use E85 ethanol at about $2 a gallon. and you can use it in your car when your done.
That is the best way to clean the vandalized coins.

It should be 22068 but if it is silver it will be 24.59

Good luck

Jewelerdave ,

Ow well, Maybe can I clean up an 1983 proof coin and 1985 philly coin they wrote on to mark there halfs. I thought it was funny to find proof coin they never pulled but wrote on it and tossed it back. I hope I can clean up coins and install them in my sets or books I am building. I guess rubing Alcohol will do the trick where I can install them in my sets.

I may found trick on cleaning up those 1964 thru 1969 half dollars with silver cleaner to make them look good to install in books. I found an very dirty 1976 s bu mint set silver coin in last batch. I cleaned with silver cleaner and looks like new again. I might try on my 65 thru 69 dirty looking coins. My 1976 find was nice where I dont need to buy 1976 mint set and cut it up.

Your correct we dont have control over the fed system on Halfs. I learned that this monlth. I bought 13 boxs of coins last monlth from loomis. I dumped them last monlth. I had some burned or damaged 1976 coins I threw into Bank machices. My bank sells those bags to feds when they get an bag full. I got 2 of my burned or damaged 1976 coins in an fedbox back Dated Feb 12, 2008. I even found some silver coins in fresh box. My burned 1976 coins I will keep this time as an Keepers since they came back an secord time.

Your correct the system works like this . Feds buy bags of halfs from banks. They fill up an pallet and then they dump them into machices to make rolls and fresh boxs. Send them out all mixed up with tons of new or old halfs in new boxs. My old Halfs mixed up with all other Banks who sold bags of halfs to feds in banking system cwi 69. Its all starts over again. I guess that the way system works.
