i guess i posted this in the wrong place before, did not see the repair topic anyway have an old orion rocket stage two needs a tune up any ideas? i live in wisconsin thanks kevin
...Kevin...You said that it needs a Tune Up??....Does that mean that it drifts alot or/and is unstable??....The problem with older detector is that long periods of storage can damage capacitors and other components...also if the environment where it was stored was very hot and/or very humid can also cause a lot of problems....I would find a good repair department and send it in......Joe
You will most likely have to call around and see if there are any deals who can work on that model as I do not find anything for the company still supporting these units .
Although their may still be something or someone that does .
Take it out and check as it may not be badly out of tune and may work just fine .
.......You will need to find an independent repair service shop....the company that made the Orion Rocket is No Longer in business......BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT....I would spray some electronic cleaner in all of the potentiometers and work or move or rotate all of the dials arounds for a bit...being in storage for a long time makes some of these detectors sluggish....it has been suggested to put in a fresh set of batteries and turn on the batteries and let it run down....this procedure seems to awaken the circuits....anyway just the cost of the batteries would let you know if it really needs to go to a repair shop or not.......good Luck ...Joe
....LX KID...The Orion Rocket Stage 2 was one of 3 other models ...namely the Stage 1 and Stage 3..........The reason that very little info is available on these detectors is that Orion Electronics was very short lived.....2 or 3 years max......To explain this better....I need to give a bit of history......once upon a time back in the 70's there was a company called Wilson-Neuman that made quite a few good detectors mostly called Daytonas....and a few others....somewhere in the 80's there was a split in the company with Wilson and Neuman going in separate directions.......Wilson founded Wilson Electronics and came out with the ATD....and the Relic and Coin Series....Neuman came out with Orion Electronics and namely the Orion Stage Series.......I never owned a Orion but reading the info it seems to be similar to some of the Daytonas.......Hope that helps.......Joe
Thanks Joe. I have one of the old Daytona's but it doesn't work. I had another one years ago and it did alright for a small detector. Maybe someone else has an Orion that they would share a picture with us.
