ornate whatsit and log cabin pics

I found this today at an old log cabin site at the edge of a well.? Any ideas what it is?? It's copper.? Found some other junk, but I really need to get a lawn mower out there to make swinging a coil easier.? Too much brush and vines.

Depending on the weight of the piece ,I would say it's between a broach or a buckle of some type....Hope this helps....nice find... Seeker

It's not terribly fragile, probably close to the weight of a half dollar. It does look like it may possibly have had something attatched to it on the back at either side of the center, behind the circular spots. The little bumps that it's made of appear to be faceted a little, like maybe it was gilded or painted like jewels?? Here's a pic of the back side.

Thanks for the input here...I think so far I'm going to go with the hair clip idea. I think that fits best so far. More ideas are welcome though!
