OT: What are these map features?

Forgive me for being a little off topic. Looking at an 1875 map I see what looks like an agricultral feature next to the homes. Curious as to what exactly these are. Orchards, gardens, plowed field?

I'm going to Guess Orchards.

But no idea what type.

If it were here I'd say apple



Can you get an Arial of the areas & see if
any still have Trees in lines ?

I think Jeff is right on. I have an 1892 map showing similar markings.

Other thoughts:
Contact the Planning Dept. of your county--with your map. See if they can overlay it with current map. (as mentioned above).
