I was re-reading the manual about battery life and it says;[h=5]AUDIO BATTERY TEST[/h]When you first turn the unit from OFF to ON, the automatic battery test circuit is activated. You will hear an audio tone, the volume and duration relating to the battery strength. When the battery test is no longer heard, the 9 V battery needs to be replaced.

Well I found the test was still strong. But when I set my threshold it wasn't a constant hum. It was a vibrating hum. Was doing some testing and it wasn't working properly. Changed the battery and all back to normal.
Got 72 hours on my first battery which just blows me away. $302.11 in clad with a lot being our Canadian $1 & $2 coins.

At least they use 9 volt batteries not the big brick 6 volt batteries.

Wow thats awesome, you have nearly paid off your detector! 72 hours with or without headphones is pretty good!

If my fuzzy math is correct, you need to find approximately 3 pennies an hour to break even on the cost of a 9v Duracell, and you earned yourself approximately $4.19 hr with your finds.

Always use the headphones.

I've been impressed with Tesoro's battery life from the get go. Especially using headphones which I feel is a must do, anyway.

Thanks for the info... I should track my battery usage - it's got to be creeping up into the 30+ hours.

I would be suprised if the off the shelf batteries last as long as the oem Panasonic Industrials?

Are these batteries available to buy anywhere? Longest 9 volt battery life I've ever seen.

I can not find a good source for the Panasonic Industrials. It looks like Panasonic may only sell by the case (72 batteries). There is a seller on ebay selling box of 12.

I found my original Panasonic Industrials that came with my LST, I had taken them out for storage, forgot I put them in a side pocket on my case. The batteries are approximately 15 yrs. old and still test as new with my battery tester that tests under load. Any other battery would have probably leaked acid and ruined my case and detector.

Batteries2batteries.com and click4batteries.com sell them for $2.50 each.

yep, amazon 3rd party sellers have them as well, but after you include the shipping, its not a good buy. I use Eneloop and Ansmann rechargeables.
