I was 4 years old when this thing first hit the stores in 1960. I don't remember that, but it seems everyone had one when I was a kid. I'll bet many of you did also. I picked this one up at a thrift store for about five bucks and the grandson found it very intriguing. I wonder how many pounds of aluminum powder it's taken to make a hundred million of these things. 🤔

Yep, I definitely played with one of those. I never could really make anything other than squares and rectangles, though.

We're the same age, I also remember the fun I had with them.

You got a great deal, they still sells these for $15 to $25 dollars, they even sell a "mini/pocket" version.

Now they're made in China since 2001

Spend hours drawing on it.
Did a big black square one time.
Could see right inside it.

I remember one getting broken, my brother and I thought is was a good idea to play with the aluminum powder, THAT STUFF IS REALLY MESSY, we of course got "grounded" for a couple of weeks!!

I used to love those things!

I was born in 65 so i got my brothers to play with. I never could do much with it. I would try making a circle but it was never perfect. Check out this link for some Etch a Sketch art.

I get this kid all kinds of boy toys at the big thrift stores around here. I've snagged several Bruder trucks that can be around a hundred bucks new. I haven't spent more then ten bucks on any of them. I might be spoiling him, but he's hard pressed to ever be bored visiting papa's house. I see it as a good education, which at four years old he can label all kinds of components and understands their functions, from hydraulics to power transmission.
