Hi,
Adding up my totals since 2001 I have found over 85,000 coins, with 2001 being the best year when I found over 20,000 coins that year including over 3000 in both June and July and my record of 546 coins in one day. I have also found hundred's of rings. I started detecting in September 1968. Back in the early seventies it was'nt uncommon to find fifty plus silver coins in a day, compare that with last year where I found seven for the whole year. I do not have a home computer or digital camera, but my daughter took some pictures of some of my ring finds from the last several years. If you want to see the pictures, email me at clarksegler@hotmail.com and I will forward them to you. Good Hunting....Kane 23

My thoughts exactly great job

Wow, Lets see thats 546 coins divided 8 hours, divided by 60 min. thats 1.14 coins per min. for 8 straight hours with no breaks. Count me out, I would be dead.

Sounds good to me...I was sent several inspiring articles last year about some great detectorists when pursuing my goals...ended up over 11,000 coins. Some of the articles included someone with over 250,000 coin recoveries and one with over 32,000 coins in a year! What you could do is...just have your daughter send pics to whichever computer you use and add pics to post... Last year I did take a pic and post when I hit 10,000...this year I am tumbling each month and going to bank. Had my tumbler running over 8 hours a day for 6 days to get them clean...will be much easier this year.... Congratulations on all your finds! :)

Way to go kane!

You remind me of me! I started in '74. I found 592 coins and 4 pieces of gold jewelry in 4 days (after work each day) back in '83. 63 of those were silver(3 halves, 21 quarters, 45 dimes......In 4 days!!!) I find that hard to believe myself sometimes. I long for days like that again.

I didn't keep good enough records over the years so I can't say how many total coins I have found, but I figure it is well over the 100,000 mark.

Those were the days bud! Now that I am getting older, I find it harder to put out the time and energy it takes to keep up the effort to find large amounts of stuff. I used to be able to go at it (detecting..lol) for hours. I did the competition hunts also and those were fast and furious.

Pics would be great!

Good luck !...............HH

DFX,
I guess I don't know how to post a picture from an email or I would,I lack a lot of computer savvy I guess. I read about a guy in a treasure magazine in Florida who found over 800 individual coins in a day and he's done it more than once. A conservative guess would put me at 270,000 coins since 1968.
HH I remember once finding 11 silver halves and four gold rings in one day in 1971,another day I found 9 silver halves in one day. In 1981 I found two silver dollars and a half in one hole (1878-s,1890-cc and 1917) that was a good one. Ah the good old days.......Kane 23

Find a lot, find a little. It all adds up to many hours of fun and enjoyment!

I went up one of the canyons to an old mine last week. Found a lot of old tin cans and cartridge casings, got the jeep muddy and watched a herd of mule deer wander through the cedars. Great day!

Have a good one!

grndfisher, what part of Utah are you in?

over 800 in a day is incredible...I think we had someone over 500 here last year... I shot for 200 in a day twice and made it both times...a lot of pennies... This year I am digging less coins to see if I can pick up my silver count...was only 12 last year...1 up to now this year. I did find a dollar bill this morning while hunting... :happy3: Well take care...I am glad they have the forums now for us to communicate...stories like your are always inspiring!

DFX,
I'm also trying to find more silver coins this year,i'm up to three. I'm also trying for more gold rings(have one) and more total coins. lots of silver deep on peoples lawns, but I hate to ask, I have had to many bad expeiriences. Once started searching a lawn after getting permission and I found a 1920-s half right off the bat. The lady was watching out the window, saw what I found and came out and kicked me off. Many similar things have happened,it's really a pain! I prefer abandoned lots and Ghost towns for older coins. good hunting.....Kane23

I have heard those stories from the old timers, the hey day of detecting! There are still sites out there, just got to find them. HH, Mike
