Those bells are all over the place. I have found one and so have others. I wonder what they were used for?

Congrats on some nice finds. I've always heard these bells described as "Conestoga bells". They were several of these mounted on a metal rack on the horse drawn wagons to signal the wagons approach.

Not sure if its 100% true but I have heard that the phrase "I will be there with bells on" comes from when traveling by wagon if you "broke down" and someone stopped to help you would give them one of your bells. So, when you say "I will be there with bells on" meant you would not have any trouble and have all your bells.

I like finding ox knobs, but I hate the fact that they ring up really high on my AT Pro (90 and up). Kind of a downer when you realize it's not a silver half dollar!
