Paco & I got out today - frigid cold - Liberty Cap Large Cent ?
Hello All,
Vp here, paco and i made it out today but not for long. It was 19 degrees with a wind chill that put it close to 0. We dressed appropriately and went to the old colonial homesteads/road - not much luck today the wind was almost too much to bear on our exposed faces so we soon called it quits. We went to another site (a demolished old house) that was more shielded from the wind and managed to find some clad, some matchboxes and a few other odds and ends. Not a great day detecting BUT paco had tumbled a coin for me that turned out it be VERY interesting - my find for the day
Now i found this copper back last week at another site and thought it was a bradied hair large cent, well we put it thru the tumbler to get some more detail off it. the front is pretty much gone (even after the tumble), you can only make out a slight bust and nose but the back's wreath is pretty complete as you can see form the pics.
so this large cent appears to be a Liberty Capped Large cent 1794-1796 (or so we think) any experts out there want to make their own assesment ?
thanks in advance,
vp
ps: i drew everything i could see using the loupe
