Pretty good camp to pick up all those.Probably found a few points too .
 

Nice , how do you determine the age of spokeshaves ? Is there a defining characteristic that helps age them ?

These were in a exclusive Western Stemmed Paleo area. Not a mixed site. The Archaic and later groups in the GB really didn't use Spokeshaves IMO
 

Very interesting. Have studied thumb nail scrapers but not spokeshaves. Please correct me if I am wrong here. A spokeshave is a fairly large reduction flake with secondary edge work.

Sounds like a great site .....did you find many points as well ?
 

A spokeshave is an "incurvate scraper" -- one with a semicircular scraping edge worked into it.
 

That group is an excellent study. So many of them have very similar details (concavity radius, length, depth).
They speak of a regular purpose and use. The size and shape of the wooden shaft or hafted bit was incredibly consistent.
