Back in the late 90s I received this as one of the raffle prizes at our Metal detecting club meeting in Slidell, LA (Past Finders Club). The gent who donated it did not recall how he got it but felt that it might be a reproduction. The two inch disc appears to be stamped sheet brass with silver wash and no evidence of how it was mounted. It is thick enough to make it very difficult to bend. The Palm design is reminiscent of early South Carolina militia design.

Maybe at one time some type of commemorative decoration?

PS Added a second back shot. trying to figure out if a hammer or a press was used to indent the plate into a mold?

That's a very interesting find. I agree it appears to have a South Carolina connection.
