Primary Interest:
Prospecting
I currently don’t have a car, and am less than 18, so locations are limited to biking distance (I also don’t want to reveal my state as I’m <18). I recently gained interest in gold panning so I wish to try to get a few flakes. I also want to try to get some magnetite.

I live 10 or so miles from the coast. All rivers are pluff mud/marshes, although we have a few creeks. There is a gold hotspot roughly 100 miles upstream of one of the rivers.

Could I pan pluff mud? Is it really true that gold is anywhere?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Could I pan on the beach?

Edit 2: The river I mentioned doesn’t actually go through the gold hotspot. I just realized 😢

Down stream as a general rule should have a few specks.

I just realized that the river doesn’t actually go through the gold hotspot! 😢
The drainage system of tributaries could and that is what counts. Where did the river travel a million or more years back?

Unfortunately nothing near our gold belt drains to it, although we have a different river that does come from the gold belt! The gold belt is 160 miles upstream, would I still be able to pan from it?

I understand why you don't want to say where you are...BUT if you give us your general location we could give you better advice.

We can't say you will find any gold if we don't know your general location, no one from here will try and track you down, we are all here to share and help when we can!!

Kind of same here I just started to prospect/pan in the past 2 months, I’m in alabama. We have the Piedmont gold belt region, I’ve been up around northeast Alabama! promise you can’t go wrong trying, just gotta get out and try.
This is some of my result.

There's an old saying, "gold is where you find it"
And the only way to do that is to try!
I live on the west coast, and we have gold on the beaches. Just need to look for the darker colored sands, it usually hides in there.

Thank you all! I think I will just try out some panning to see.

I'm willing to say that I am in the Southeastern region of the USA. Does that help any? Sorry for not wanting to share many details, but I would rather play it safe.

I truly hate to be the bearer of bad new..but anywhere in the southeastern USA 10 miles from the beach is not going to have any visible gold to find by panning or any other means, I say visible gold because saltwater has gold suspended in it but it is very sparse and microscopic.

Also unfortunately unlike Northwestern beaches, you will not find any gold on the beaches in the southeast.

To answer one of your questions..."Is it really true that gold is everywhere?", the simple answer is No it's not, if it was no one would be working they just go in their backyard and dig some gold.

To find gold in the southeast you're going to have to go where gold has been found before, but even then it's not easy to find a lot, a few flakes or tiny specks will be mostly what you will find.

Okay, thank you!
