So this thing weighs about 2 pounds. At first I thought it was some sort of insulator. But now I’m leaning toward paperweight. It’s got that “I’ve been around a long time” kind of scratches/scuffing on the bottom that old glass gets.

Also has what’s maybe a pontil scar. Anyone have any ideas on this thing? Shaped kind of like a chessman / pawn.

Thanks,

Studio art glass paperweight is all I can think of. It's unsigned, so it'll be hard to know what it really is and where it came from.

Good question, seen many on and around Murano in Italy, but I am not a glass person and Murano glass artist often make many of things that just seem odd to me.

So in terms of glass history this is a relatively modern piece, most likely a studio glass piece or production piece as mentioned by tamrock and oddjob. Most of those scratches on the bottom surface are actually from a very poorly skilled cold worker, or it was a rushed job because it was a production piece. It was worked on a lathe, note the concave surface with sharp edges. may or may not be a pontil scar, but seems quite of center. If thats the case the piece should not be perfect when spun on its vertical axis.(it kinda looks a bit off in photo according to my eyes)

Thanks. I will take down my auction starting at $75.00 (one can hope! Lol). Gonna have to garage sale this one.

Mate I say leave it up, if someone wants to give you 75 bucks for it then let them.

Be funny though if that one user on here who always buys glass buys yours and it is something worse a few thousand and he comes on here showing it off. LOL
