Thanks Jeff, never know what's on its way here!

The Mars Rover lands tomorrow, hope all goes well. Wonder if they will mention the Gold asteroid that's orbiting around Mars and Jupiter?

At 1.2 million miles, my math puts that roughly 900,000 miles
the other side of the Moon. It's not big enough to effect the
Earth gravatationally, so no worries..:occasion14:

And yep, I'll be watching the Perseverance landing live on NASA channel.
Whole bunch of stuff has to go right, or they'll end up making a new
crater on Mars, which would royally suck. sSig_aaarggh.gif

I been told that one million miles is a near miss, astronomically speaking. Inside the moon's orbit would be a near hit, and if within ten miles we would probably lose some atmosphere at the very least. :dontknow:

With the exception of the JPL department, NASA scientists are very insecure people who crave attention. Combine that with the news media's lust for sensationalism and you get headlines like-

Near Earth Astoroid Only Miles Away!

Which sells news way better than-

Near Earth Astoroid Only 1.7 X 10 to exponent -7 Light-Years Away
