I got out this morning with Lowbatts - we visited a park I hadn't been to before.
The park goes back to the age of shiny silvery stuff but it eluded us today.
There was the usual claddage and weird metal objects.
Tim had to take off early but I stayed a while longer and my big excitement was a quarter trifecta.
Unfortunately all clad but it was good to be out in the sunshine. And always fun hunting with Tim.

I took a short break and had a Dr. appointment just 5 minutes from the park, then decided to go visit a forest preserve with a lake that we drove past the other day. I had no idea where to hunt this place since I had never been there before either, so I just took off into the woods west of the lake.
I wandered around up and down and saw no signs of recent diggings so I was both hopeful and leary at the same time. My biggest find there was a pocket spill of clad right up against a tree trunk.
That spot had a couple pennys, 3 dimes and one nickel.
At one point I found a weird shaped brass thing that had small screws going into some rotted wood.
I think it's a nose or lip from an old wooden fishing lure that dives or wobbles. Why the heck it was way up in the woods is anyone's guess. Just like the toggle switch I found near another tree.

The ground was easy to dig but there were lots of those really small brush/tree things that make it hard to swing a coil so I walked down to the lake area and worked around it for awhile. After digging the 4th or 5th pop can or piece of pop can from 8 to 12 inches, I decided to call it a day and not go back there until I see some old aerial photos or take a guide or a psychic along next time.

I learned to NOT dig when I get that great signal and it stays the same when I lift the coil 6 to 8 inches off the ground. Sometimes it takes me a while til it sinks in I guess...

Tally for the 7 hours of elbow and shoulder abuse:
2 nickels: 1941 and 1973
14 assorted mem/zincolns
1 wheatie 1937
8 quarters
6 dimes

Not to shabby, it was a great day to be out hunting for treasure!!!

I'm guessing you were at the woods where Dan had a great day last week. Come to think of it I don't recall us ever going there together. NW side of the lake are two very old concrete 3-seaters (outhouses) and this is where the boy scout camp started. NE/E of the lake is the old "coin"cession stand and parking area, now a flat meadow.

It's hard hunting but Dan showed last week the keepers are still there.

Sounds like a nice hunt, Mayo. I've been stuck at work so much these past two weeks and haven't been able to enjoy the great weather. And then when the weekend finally arrives, it dumps all this snow! lol, oh well. Nice finds, and you did get an oldie with a pre-war nickel nickel. Hopefully the weather can be nice for next weekend so that we could both get out and get some more keepers.
