Carrara was blessed with 3 things most desert towns could only dream about . Water , a good supply of water was piped in to a reservoir about a mile above town from Gold Center about 6 miles away . Gravity then brought the water to Carrara ( the reservoir has often been referred to as the swimming pool , it was not although there was a bathing pool up at the quarries that was very popular ) . Electricity was brought down from Bishop CA high in the Sierra Nevada's . And not one but two railroads ! The Las Vegas & Tonopah and the Tonopah & Tidewater . With all this there were high hopes for Carrara . After some delay Townsite Day would be May 8 1913 . The trains brought visitors from Goldfield , Pioneer , Rhyolite , Beatty , Tonopah . There was a baseball game between Tonopah and Carrara ( Tonopah won 8 to 5 ) . The ladies had tea and played Bridge later on there was a feast and dancing with a band and orchestra . It looked like Carrara was well on its way and nothing could stop her ! Next in Part # 3 I will " meet you at the fountain ! " . Thanks a heap for coming along ! Hope you had a good time ! Hoss
