ok tn, sorry to keep you in suspence but it has been over 3 weeks since I was able to get back to the cabin and retrieve my other half of the "BASS LAKE RESORT SIGN" so I thought..i went back to the site and found where I had dug the 5' x 8' hole had some water in it due to the rain even though I had covered it with tarps. I proceeded to dig as you can see by the pics, I did get the other half of the sign, then when I was about to cover up the hole I said to myself, well I will just dig a little deeper and see if there is anything else,, glad I did, I hit another large piece of metal, yes it was another sign, so I had the upper and lower portions of a very large sign and then I realized it was a 2 sided sign like you would see on a highway so it could be viewed from both sides...in this case viewed from a small county road...so after I got out the 3rd part of the other side of the sign, you guessed it, a little deeper and the 4 and final side of the sign was out...about 11 hours of digging and poison ivy and a few mosquitos...as some of you stated you could not believe the condition of this sign, the reason being is I think is because the sign is well made and the metal is galvanized, also there was framing on it and that helped create a little space between the layers although dirt had gotten between layers... as you will see in some of the pics there are lots of rocks and parts of the foundation. this sign was along the inside wall of the foundation where a log cabin used to be...found shingles, copper wire, broken porcelain cups etc...the story goes jim white had built the log cabin and I guess the taxes were high and he did not want to pay the taxes, the county said either pay the taxes or tear it down...I guess he tore it down...I have contacted jims mother to see if she remembers that sign being on the road but she does not...maybe the sign was never used but I doubt that...I did not take a pic of the last side of the sign
(#4) because it was getting dark...as you can see by the two sides of the sign where it reads "boats, bait, cabins are arranged a little different...maybe next year I will get a mini excavator and dig the site real good, that is too much work and I think I will just stick to my 1944 gi trench shove...this sign will be mounted in the cabin on the porch. going to put hardboard behind it as a backing...should I just leave the sign as is or is there a way to preserve it from the elements...some paint peeling but that gives it some patina..

good hunting tn.
thanks,
Gary

That is really a cool find ! especially with the memories you have of this place .

lol cool sign !

Great "up north" hunting. Absolutely wonderful sign. Other that giving it a gentle soap and water wash I wouldn't do a thing to it.

I love old advertising! Its amazing how that sign held up under the dirt ! Great find!!! Hang it on the barn haha

thanks susan for the advice...I agree

That is one of the coolest things i have seen on here, not something you would expect someone to show. What made you decide to dig this signal, or do you dig everything?

Hello, I do not dig everything but it depends on the area...I decided to dig this because it was a low but constant signal and it was the area where a log cabin used to be and it was on our property where it has produced some good items...

have about 40 hours or so on my garrett ace 250 and still getting used to the signals....I usually use my fisher 1280x for artifacts but I have found some old rifle casings and some wheat pennies also...also an arrowhead within 100' feet or so...

Nice digs and thanks for the pics

Very, very cool sign. How great that it will not rot away to nothingness!
