Pearl/Abalone Button?

Hi!
I found a pearl inlay button at a school playground. The pearl inlay is on the front and the back is heavily corroded. I would like to know exactly what I found, the name, the approx. age and value and available literature on these types of buttons. Thank you.

no idea on age, etc. but I do know in that condition, it's not worth much.

Did you try to clean some of the corrosion off? Try some dish soap and a toothbrush or one of those green pot-scrubbers it should clean up some more, but it looks old. Great Find!
