Hunted a local park for about 1 1/2 hours and found a pennie mine! 71 so far and I'm sure there are more. Strange thing is they were all in a 30 foot square area and none had to be dug. They were all at ground level hidden by 4-6 inch tall grass. Also dug 2 quarters and 4 dimes.

seeded penny hunt for a detector club or for kids to find maybe?

I found the same thing in Acacia Park last year. It was about 40 or so pennies around one of the bushs just under the tan bark.

A lot of digging , A penny dug is a penny earned .

Ahhhhh very impressive Grasshopper... but can you snatch the pebble from my hand? <grin> I too find lots of pennies, but then I dig nearly every target my li'l ol' detector points out for me. Some people discriminate out or ignore the penny signals.. Not me! I must be keeping a factory in business somewhere.. one that makes those paper tube rollers for coins. I rarely come home with less than say 30 pennies.. more often than not it's more likely to be closer to or more than 100 pennies. Dimes are plentiful too, a few quarters.. nickles.. not so much. Don't you just love it when you hit one of those penny patches? The kind where the signals are so close together that you end up staying on your knees rather than standing up then kneeling down, standing up, then kneeling down.. up... down.. up.. down. Kind of reminds me of Catholic Mass or something.. (No offense intended people). <grin>
Congrats on the Penny Mine... Keep having fun.. and as always. Happy Hunting!

I too hit a penny mine.

After looking into it I found that the homeless people get drunk and pass out in the area and the pennies fall out.

Nice to finally get a little somthing back for all my "donations"! LOL

(Did I say that out loud or just think it?)

Very nice!! I found 174 mem. pennies in one hole by some swings this year. It was nice, I think some kid must have buried them there. HH

I have been in areas like that also. I just sit down and pick up the coins using my pinpointing probe.

possibly a carnival booth was set up there, land the penny in the greased bowl, win a prize. maybe you found the strays....

I've been known to throw away pennies before while cleaning out things.... not one or two, either ;D

Well there ya go.
You will almost always find at least 1 penny or more, if nothing else, every single time you go hunting or even just going for a walk. When I was a kid we would pick pennies up from the ground and buy penny candies with them. Today's kids, and adults too, turn their noses up at the lowly penny. The only people I see spending their energy to pick one up are the elderly, I guess they can remember when a penny was money. Not even the homeless can be bothered with them, they usually start their panhandling at 50 cents these days. I mean can you blame them? The zinc ones are truly worthless and the copper ones won't buy you crap, unless you hoard them all then melt them down and sell them for scrap. People and especially kids just throw them as far as they can by the handful everyday.
