Got out after work for a short hunt at a property that has a 1950 house and a 1800's cellar hole on the same property.
Unfortunately, as often seems to be the case, from the 1950's on the old cellar hole was used as the property trash dump. It's full of broken bottles, bedsprings and piles of rusty metal. There is a thick halo of junk around it also, but as I move farther away , the ground gets quieter and it's possible to start separating targets. The site has given up dandy buttons, old buckles and a mercury dime but I knew there had to be more there.
About 50 feet away there is a steep hillside that I had not searched yet.
First the pull tab popped up. Not a great start but hope prevails..
Now the milk bottle cap and the first wheat penny....things are improving.
Then, on the steepest part of the hill the digs got better.
The pewter whatzit, the copper candleholder base and the lead bag seal with part of the wire still embedded in it.
In the midst of all this out came two more lincolns, One wheat and one memorial, the 1891 IHP and my first large cent this year( 1837?)
Still cleaning them all but thought I would share.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!
