Perfect Conditions - Drilled & Rolled...

Started the day off in the wrong field after my poor navigation using a 1945 aerial shot. Only detected for 5 minutes before we realised but it was too late I had my best Roman Coin of the day :-[ If we find the owner he can have it ::) Once we were in the right field with the interesting looking cropmarks we had little success, other than another Ancient Bronze Awl 8) So decided to move to some nearby drilled Wheat fields where last year we had the odd hammered or two.
This field & the one next to it were much better & we ended the day with:

Our 1st 30th Reg. of Foot Lead-alloy cuff button complete with lead loop  ;D
Medieval Coin Weight (type we need) :)
Silver Spoon (complete but bent) - London 1788 :icon_thumright:

That's some pile of buttons for one dig.
Must be hard to turn over your finds.

Not hard at all really, only less than 0.05% of my finds fall under the terms of the act & every one I have handed in I have got back (bar 1 that Dad found & the BM keep). Any they keep they pay us market value for. The only unfair bit of the system is the time taken which is more than 18months.

You are right of course. In the end it is not so much the owning of an item that motivates us (or me anyway) It's more about the finding of an item. The moment of discovery is the exciting part, and what is responsible for the addictiveness.

I suppose also that the items they would keep are things you might sell anyway, and like you said they give you fair market for it. Better than an ebay gamble.

Nope, never sell anything but stuff I used to junk.
