I haven't been able to go detecting hardly at all in the last six months but I had a couple of free hours this morning. So I headed to the permission. I had been reading the posts of several Deus users as I tried to understand the Deus better. I had tried several programs but I seem to struggle with the various tones due to my hearing and problems from past strokes. So, I made various improvements with my programs but switched to 5 tones. I seem to struggle with differentiating the small differences in tones, so I plan to try this for a while. Anyways, I had to try out the 5 tone and in spite of the wet muddy conditions, I began. I found the usual pull rings, a few pieces of lead, a key and then a few other items. I finally found the token, I believe it is an Oklahoma Consumer Tax Token, on the one side it says FOR OLD.....ASSISTANCE. I accidentally left it in the electrolysis too long and made it harder to read. Anyways, I had been getting these very nice sounding 96 readings, four or five of them but they turned out to be these round steel grommets. They drove me nuts and I was getting tired of them and just plain tired when I got another 96 reading. I almost passed it up, I was a long ways from the truck now and I was about three inches taller from the caked mud. But I dug it and to my surprise, at about 7 inches down, I could see the edge of a large silver coin. There is no mistaking the grooved edge of a large silver coin and I could plainly see it. Now it was just a matter of what kind and to my delight, I could see it was a Walker, a 1942 to be exact. This is my 3rd Walker find, all in this permission. I also found an old cool white marble. The brass plate, broken in half says SUCCESS BRI and MEMP. I guess the 5 tone seems to work okay, many times I could hear the iron growl at the end of a pass over a target and knew that it was probably rusty iron but dug them anyways to make sure. I am using the LF coil at 12 khz, I have taken in consideration the various settings that Calabash Digger used and others. The Walker was on edge and sounded pretty darn good. I wasn't expecting to find large silver on my 1st hunt of 2018 but this permission has been one of many firsts for me. Of course I had to go by the school and show the little wife the Walker, she was ready to go right then. I really love this Deus, so light and so easy to customize to what you want it to do. Permissions can really make such a difference for anyone, it is crazy to not be asking so go ask! DL

thanks, that means a lot coming from you. You have given a lot of us a lot of meat to work with and helped us to understand the Deus

Dirtlooter where at in Arkansas are you from? I’ve found quite a few of those Oklahoma tax tokens over the years and funny I’ve found more here in Arkansas than Oklahoma.

Beautiful Walker
Congrats on your 1st Silver of the year.

DL, good to hear from you. Glad you are back. That walker is gorgeous, still looking for my first. Well done!

Great save, Looter!! Those Walkers are a perfect example of a lost art...nothing like the clad crap they churn out today. Congrats DL, what a way to start 2018! Ddf

Way to persevere Loot! Congrats on a beauty of a coin.

I live south of Mena, I have found three or four of the various Oklahoma Tax tokens and MO. tokens. One from MO was recently added to a national token catalog after I posted it last year. I have found tokens scattered here and there, even in school yards. We have civil war activity around here but considered light to most areas.

It pays to go "muddin'." Congratulations, dirtlooter!

Never give up attitude. Love it my friend. That Dues is one heck of a tool in the right hands. CD knows it well and has been helping many learn it. Keep after it and the good stuff will come.

Big congrats DL! I bet your face hurts from all of the smiling!

Way to hang in there and score.

Best of luck to you sir.

Nice walker dirtlooter congrats....:occasion14:

Well done on the silver DL, congrats.
it's a learning process with the tones and if they're not black and white I struggle as well.

Very nice DL. Its always nice to see a Walker come out of the ground.

Awesome. I’m in fort smith now. I still go to nwa almost daily. Most of my contacts from up north have moved off so I don’t have many detecting friends up there. I’ve heard of some troop activity down that way just never hunted it. I’ve found a lot of civil war stuff in residential areas of ft Smith

A nice walker half dollar, and to find three at a single site is simply awesome.

big site, still has potential for more great finds. I need to slow down and search more wisely. I never expected to find them, this site has been hunted before...but how good was the hunter or their equipt? They didn't get it all. even more reason to dig some of those iffy signalsthat you may have passed up before.

Congratualtions on the big silver find! :occasion14:

Good Luck in 2018
