Hey everyone.....I purchased this candle holder for about 75% under melt. It is Persian / Iranian and it is marked: (something in Farsi, 84%, and Made in Iran). Seems 84% is actually the Persian mark for .875 silver. Seems this has something to do with Persia conforming to the Russian standard for silver.

It was dropped and it slightly damaged. However, I really like it, it is beautiful, and it if the first thing I've bought from Persia.

Question: How is the engraving done on this piece? Is it by hand?

good luck and thanks for looking,
bill

Beautiful piece. Yes it should be all hand engraved

I have a pure silver tray engraved like your item. The marks are within the engraved art work. It's so fun to come across silver that isn't stamped sterling and in the case of this piece I have, it was priced very cheap in a thrift store.

Thanks Jim and Tamrock!

I can't imagine how long it took to engrave these items. I'm getting some baby spoons hand engraved and it's costing $5 per letter / number and about $100 per spoon.

Love the Persian stuff. Seldom seen, but rarely caught by the thrift people. :D

You just never know what will show up in a thrift store and that's why I hit em as much as I can.
