Not an artifact, but it is something I found one year while walking a creek in the woods in mid Missouri artifact hunting. It is a huge piece of petrified wood, weighs over 250 pounds.

When I found it I had to roll it about 75 yards to get it to the road where I was parked only to find I couldn't dead lift it high enough to get it in the high pickup bed due to its weight, I had to hide it in the road ditch and go get a friend to help me lift it and get it home.

It was a small stone bottom creek, I had found points in it in the past. I found the petrified log laid across the creek forming a small waterfall. I had learned to dig at the base of small waterfalls for points that get caught in the hole made by the falling water over the years, points wash down the creek by hard rains causing high water and rapid currents, while digging I realized the waterfall had been formed by the petrified log.

I placed a quarter on left side for size reference, it is 27 inches long 14 inches wide and 47 inches in circumference. 20180201_161758.webp

I have a spot thats turning into a museum where half of the ground is fossils and the other half is petrified wood. I can pick these up all day. They are cool but is there any value to them? I think this is cool but just curious if anybody knows how to sell this stuff?

I think some of it is liked by flint knappers, maby has to be nice colored or something . slices of it really has some nice looks. any of you guys ever try slicing up some.?

Nice Find Treasure Hunter and Quito.
I still have my 18'' x 24'' x 50'' stump out in the back yard. I usually only bring home the five #er's or larger.

That's a neat find, TH. It looks like either a burl or root ball with all that crazy grain. No telling what kind of cool patterns there might be if it was cut into slices.

I've found small pieces before but nothing like that. Very nice find:thumb_up:

While were talking of petrified wood how do you guys look for it, is it everywhere, ? i dont believe i ever seen any in southern Ky. but of coarse i aint been looking . have been wanting some to work into some woodworking projects along with figured wood ,i think that would make some interesting tables and such ,but the table slabs are extremely pricey.

Gorgeous!!!

here is a piece from round here.
