I have been finding petrified wood throughout my yard. I have already found two peices. One weighs about 40lbs and the other around 10lbs. Is this rare in PA? ??? How can i determine how old it is?

I dug in a vain of clay on my property and it was by itself the only rock in the dig. If i had better pictures you could accutally see the grain in the wood. It is rock hard and weighs about 45-50lbs.

Petrified wood is found everyplace... I dug it in NY and Montana both... it's a great display item if cleaned and cool looking.

Put it in your flower garden and enjoy it.

The other piece i found that was in the same elevation when my house was dug. Do you believe that in that clay seem there could be more? I own about 8 acers and i have found 2 pieces in differnt clay seems, but in the same elevation.

The wood is evidence that the conditions for fossilization were present at your location

Some more digging could reveal animal fossils

Be on the lookout for saber tooth fangs and mammoth tusks :D

Agate... a clear type quartz in petrified wood is worth the big bucks
