Did you see or hear of any strange or unusual happenings during your time at Philmont ? I'm not asking for ghost stories but tangible experiences.

i note that the Philmont backcountry program is now closed (for the first time ever) until further notice due to fires in the area.
Don.

Johnny - same here.. Camp Buck Toms in the Smokies was as grand as it got in my scouting years !

Mac - yes I saw that news on their website. Trying to talk my sister into getting her boys into Scouting so I have a possible entrance into the park in a few years time...

On a hiking forum I engaged a Ranger who was summer staff for nearly a decade in the 90's. He claimed there were still areas in the backcountry no one went and likely hadn't since geologists combed the region when Exxon owned it. He didn't entertain any treasure tales for me but said Indian and Pioneer artifacts are found nearly every year due to flooding in the washes turning up the rocks and earth.
