I woke up this morning with no intention of getting out and doin some tectin. Well that changed, at lunch i swung by the local fairgrounds that has been very good to me this year, and in about 15 minutes picked up a 1923 merc. That got my fever up a bit. After work, i went back and found a 35 buff, and 2 war nickels. I normally dont bother diggin nickels, in fact i have them discriminated out, the places i hunt are littered with pull tabs and foil. I get a text book nickel tone, 12-13, and start to dig it out when i hit a brick. I pulled the plug out and laying on top of the brick 4 inches down is a war nickel tails up, Monitcello staring at me. I walk another 2 foot and get the same tone, same result another brick and another war nickel only this time Thomas Jefferson was looking at me with his left eye. What was so exciting about the last war nickel is that its my 300th silver coin lifetime. I started in 2006 and only found about 20 or so a year until i purchased my e-trac, and ive pulled about 250 of those with it, had it since june of 09.
I thought that was the end of my day when my girlfriend called me and invited me to hunt with her at a private house she got permission to hunt. She wouldnt let me hunt there before because she found her first silver of the year there and wanted to keep it all to herself. (cant blame her) I found a 1941 merc in about 10 minutes, and 6 feet away a got a screaming 10-46 that had the depth gauge pegged, I thought it was going to be a deep quarter, when i pulled the plug and saw the silver half (1943 s walker) I new she was going to be upset, (she was kind of miffed about the mercury dime) But she told me she was happy for me, (she was upset). I also found 15 wheats at this site, all were 6-8 inches deep. What a day 2 mercs 2 war nickels and a 43 s walking liberty half, my second one of the year. These are silvers numbers 38, 39, 40 41, and 42 for the year.
