I found this today where the Battle of Britton Lane was in Medon, TN. What is this? Any info would be helpful because I am going back there. Thanks.

It doesn't look thick enough to be a piece of artillery to me. Maybe it is part of their cooking pots.

There is one exception to what Duggap said about your broken cast-iron find being too thin. It does resemble the thin tapered lip which often broke off of a Hotchkiss artillery projectile's basecup. But your iron find shows a groove on both sides, so it's not part of a Hotchkiss. Sorry to have to disappoint, but it is definitely not an artillery shell fragment.
