Piece of silver... age and function?

Going through some finds from the past. Found this around 2014. It tests silver and found in a field where most finds dated from the 1850s to early 1900s. Any idea what this could have been used for and age? Maybe a pin of some sort?

I believe it's a 'beauty pin' clothing accessory (minus the pin device). I have a reprint of a 1914 Kresge five and dime catalog that lists similar ones (Kresge was the company that later came to be known as K-mart)
