Pinpointing with a 12x15" sef coil

Can anyone tell me their experience with pinpointing with a 12x15" sef coil ? Have you had trouble? I have..and am ready to return the coil to kellyco...but first my question is.......I run the coil ON 16-19 sensitivity in my shallow water hunts.......Is it possible that I may need to reduce the sensitivity to say 5 ..when i want to pinpoint?

I like the 12x15 SEF & I don't find it much more difficult to pinpoint with than the 11" pro coil
on either the Safari or the Explorer SE. Are you using pinpoint mode? I leave my Safari in disc mode &
use the "minelab wiggle" to pinpoint.

I run in all metal mode..and i use the pinpoint button to pinpoint...it works great with the 11"..but not with the 12x15

I suggest purchasing a pinpointer..... I can't imagine trying to pinpoint with a large coil all day.
I have used the pin point feature only twice so, who knows. :D

I pinpoint with the WOT and my SEF 15x18" coil with no problem at all....I have hunted many times with the WOT in parks and can easily pinpoint with it as well....BUT, I also have the Detectorpro Uniprobe if I need it.....

Do you find the pro coil easy to pinpoint with?

Not being able to pinpoint well is more likely the user than a defective coil so no dealer is going to take that one back. At least not giving the full return price.

the pro coil works for pinpointing dead on.....I did try the 12x15 again today........it will not pinpoint with my sensitivity set at 19...but if i switch to auto sens. the 12x15 pinpoints fairly well

Ever notice if the pro coil is better in auto too? That's sounds pretty strange and I can't come up with an answer that amkes sense.

Center up on the target as best you can then drag the coil back untill the
target is at the front ( toe ) where the out side of the left and right parts
come together.

Re: Pinpointing with a 12x15" sef coil

The SEF coils are basically a DD coil. What this means is they have a detection pattern like a wiper blade, 1-2" wide, almost as long as the coil, and down to a depth, without much loss on the edges. To pinpoint use pin point mode or wiggle method with the detector. In pinpoint mode locate target, remember this line, turn 90 deg and locate again. Where the two cross is the target. If you are off the target may have been on its side. For the wiggle method, detect target, wiggle right and left to center target and pull or push coil while wiggling. Where you loose the signal is close to the target. You may find your pin point is a little more out or under the coil. Dig the first targets using the exact edge of the coil as a guide and note where the target actually is and make an adjustment. remember to think center of the coil with either method. The wiggle can be faster but the regular method may be more accurate. Hope this helps.

on my explorer se pro with pro coil or 10by12sef i use both pinpoint or minelab wiggle both work fine if junk near by lock on tone wiggle to pinpoint or pinpoint mode may lock on junk not target you wanted at first point point was hard for me with se compared to my xlt but now 3 weeks experiance its a breze loving the explorer more all the time and im real new to this detector
