It is broke off of something just don't know what it came off. i also would like to know what the deal is with the small square holes are for the bottom part that was broke has been polished. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

It's an interesting piece and much more detailed than what I have found or seen around here where I live at. Could it have come off the side of a pot? I've seen one that had heads on both ends that served as handles. Just a thought.

it could be off of a pot but in a local museum I have seem pipes that had effigies on them so that is were i got the idea. Also a few years after i found this i picked up a piece of pipe that looks like it could be part of it. The piece is in the upper left hand corner of this case. I will get a better pic of the piece posted within a few days thanks for the input its greatly appreciated.

thanks again
Moah

Very interesting piece moah4me. It looks to have a "feline" quality to it and may represent an individual wearing a Cat Mask. I'm not sure if it was part of a Pipe or not but it definitely a very cool looking piece. I hope Joshua Ream and Matt Rowe see this and give their opinions.

It definitely looks like part of a late prehistoric/historic Iroquois/Mohawk face pipe, but I don't see how it would fit on the pipe. Maybe just an effigy lug of a pot or bowl? The other artifacts in your frame look like classic pipe fragments.

Nice piece and great site!

Moah and Trev, both of you have nice effigy pieces. Moah, yours does look like a cat/man, and from the side it looks like a gremlin. Lol! Nice find! Both of you guys must be near sacred grounds. Stuff like that doesn't pop up in every plowed field.

Really nice piece. All in this thread very impressive. Never found anything like them in our area.

Killer finds. The first isn't engraved though, it's fired clay.
