I found this black, pirate glass bottle today. How can I find its approximate age?

Look for a mold seam, pontal, could be a turn mold, 3 piece mold.
I'll say 1880-1885 date range, going on the one's that I have recovered in the past.
Here's a great link/site that will give you lots of info. for the bottle dating and ref.

There’s a helpful forum here... Bottles & Glass

Don’t forget to provide some details on how it was obtained, and where, etc.

Your bottle is pontiled and likely dates to the 1850’s . Old, but not “pirate “ age.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Any pirate should be able to tell you. :laughing7:

Pepper,

Thank you for the bottle dating references - very useful. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Islandgirlaus! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) - members may have more success helping you (your location may help, etc.)...

2nd - I moved ya from TODAY'S FINDS! over to BOTTLES & GLASS for more exposure.

It's a nice one for sure. I'd say about 1820-1860.
