What exactly is this item I believe its a ring for a horse possible. Is someone knows exactly what's it was used for please help. Curious. Is it possibly civil war issued there no stands or writing. It was dug on a site known for civ. it is composed of brass and the center iron obviously. It is kinda oval more than round measuring 3 and a quarter inch on one side and 3 and a half in on the other. It looks almost like a pin which is the iron part rusted stuck in the middle. If anyone has any knowledge please feel free to message.

Looks like a lock pin for a trailer.

Re: Plantation Dig

It looks like a mid 19th century picket pin. You would push the pin into the ground and wrap the horse reins through the ring.

Oh wow cool that's the best descriptions I've gotten on an object like this. I appreciate the info man. I've found s lots like this just not brass all iron.

My guess - It's either a lock pin for a tractor or a snaffle bit from horse tack. We dig a lot of these on farm sites.
