Some folks talking about gold in plants, and using plant life as an indicator for finding mineralized zones.
I have noticed this and have been using it now to locate mineralizations.

Most times I see plant life growing in the zone and dig in and I find a decent spot, it may not have good gold values, but all the proper mineralizations are there for a pocket to happen.
I have used the plant life as an indicator with much success, and recommend that one pay attention to his surroundings when in a mineralized area this is a good technique to use and saved me a lot of work by helping me to zero in on potential zones that have not yet eroded out where I could find a mineral indicator.

it may be the moisture content in the zone as it always seems hold moisture longer than the surrounding zone or the mineralizations that cause the plants to grow in those spots, I just know when I see plants growing out of solid rock I will always check it out for mineralizations.

Years ago we used the exact opposite to locate gold in an ancient river bed that had been pushed up over the ages to a point that is now is on top of the hills in the area. Lots of river cobbles and NO PLANTS. Since I no longer live in the area I turned Drywallman on to the area. I was looking at some of the gold I pulled out of there earlier today and it just don't compare to desert gold out of Greaterville.

This method is more for hardrock locations as they are much more saturated with minerals.
But is also helpfull in placers of the type you mention,
I use the green plant life in wash deposits as a indicator of where to find the drop zones or possible nugg trapps as they are deeper and are the possible gold drop zones, the moisture hangs up there longer, plants will be always be green in these spots all through the dry spells. the main plant that I look for here is the catclaw mesquite I have found some decent little placer pockets in these type spots.

Hello goldtramp, agree with you on the indicator. Being from California, I re-plant the vegetation after digging. Sounds funny, but if re-planted properly, grass can catch a heck of alot of gold the next high water. Do over and I call it sustainable so we can teach our kids to find gold for generations.
