Ey y'all I found this while metal detecting awile ago at a house abandoned in the 1960s. I found another soldier at that house from 1955 and I was wondering if y'all could help me with this little guy
You can see he has pants on and a "leatherneck" collar on with lots of buttons. Any help?
Hi Wheatfinder13, Your plastic soldier is an MPC (Multiple Plastics Company) "ringhand" type of figure. This pose came in OD green (soldier) red (fireman) and blue (policeman) as the uniform was generic. They came in bags full of different poses of figures and dozens of tools, weapons, and accessories in different colors on plastic sprues. You could put the accessories in the ringhands of the figures. They were made in the 1950's and 1960's as a less expensive alternative to Marx figures. Great find, keep checking those spots for more! Happy Hunting, Sub
I was going to suggest MPC, and they did make a series of monster figures (which I believe it to be), but it didn't exactly match the ones from them.
This guy appears to be wrapped in cloth, like a mummy, and his boots pants aren't tucked into his boots like the army figures.
This particular figure is from MPC's molds of the 1950's, with oversized features, a "less than active" poses, and generic uniforms. In the 1960's, the sculptors got more enthusiastic about their jobs and produced very detailed figures like the ones in the photograph. Marx, Auburn, and Ideal did the same thing with their figures. Hope this helps, Sub
