So this is one of those finds you see other people dig up on YouTube but never expect to really find one yourself. Well today it happened, I grabbed one of my great white Buffaloes!!! Lol ..The day started by getting rejected at a few places but because of perseverance I ended up at a 1850s mansion in Cincinnati. Right next to that beautiful red brick side of the house I blindly wrapped my hands around this plate at every bit of 8 inches. The dirt is still moist so please advise on how I should clean this since I'm not finding relics like this every day.

Thats awesome!!!!! I know exactly how you feel, just happened to me. That is a great pc of history. CONGRATULATION:occasion14:

Beautiful and awesome find.
A fine hunt indeed.

That sir, is one heck of a nice find!

I just realized that there is a square nail stuck under the clip part on the back !!!!

Super find. Heart rate back to normal yet?

I would not run tap water on it. I would just use a soft tooth brush and clean the dirt off of it. I'm sure there is a better way of cleaning it be patient people will chime in soon. Very impressive find.

That is also one I've never seen posted before.
Seen lots of CSA plates posted, many get on the banner, but this is a first.

Your Ohio plate is a great find indeed.

great find. I agree with texjim on his recommendation. it is really easy to over clean something. I would just brush away a little of the dirt on the letters to help make them stand out. that is a rare Union related plate so make sure to take pics of it coming out of the ground and the location. I would get a notarized letter done to preserve the info for future generations. this is a high dollar plate and is banner worthy. congrats on an amazing find.

WOW. thats a beautiful find. Congratts.

Very cool find. Congratulations. My banner vote is in.

I've never hurt a relic with a soft toothbrush water, and a tiny bit of detergent.

Absolutely spectacular ...especially in this day and age.

Just use some warm soapy water, let it sit for a while in the water and then rinse off with running water. Repeat until dirt is gone, you will not harm it with water and using a brush while dirty may scratch the patina. How about a size reference?? It looks like the rarer small version with only the one arrow hook. One of the nicest finds I have seen in a while, voting banner also!! CONGRATS!! A soft toothbrush after removing most of the dirt will not hurt it as smokey says, just don't use a lot of pressure.

Just threw a banner vote your way! That is a killer find. But, I'm sure you already know that it is. Good luck!

I just realized that there is a square nail stuck under the clip part on the back !!!!

Bet the owner had put it under there as a spacer then hammering down the hook so it did not stick out to far. If not maybe a wedge to keep the hook from slipping out of the leather. Who knows why it is still there? Pretty stinking cool!

Banner.

Please post pictures after you clean it up!

VERY NICE! Congrats! Banner vote going in
