platypus depth

The platypus will give you more depth and clearer signals it is also better balanced and is better for use in trashy areas. It is also easier to pin point than the standard coil. I have had mine for over a year and love it.You will find it is better on small gold items I have found a few tiny nuggets with mine. A good investment for sure.
Andy Sabisch did a feild report on them it might be worth your while looking at that. Maybe the coiltek agent has a copy. good luck Neilo

Hello Guys!
A good question and one I feel needs more adding too! :)

I purchased a Platypus 8.5 x 11 coil/lower rod for my SE several weeks ago forking out $240.00 delivered. I really do like the looks of the coil; the color is just plain neato. I must say I agree with everything Neilo said but in my area with high mineralization, I'm not finding much pass 6 to 8 inches with the coil at the best. It is sensitive to small items however as one of the very first coins I found was a 1912D Barber dime. I picked up its twin, about ten feet away, a 1912S the very next day useing the Platypus. Time may prove me wrong but depth wise I can't see the Platypus out performing the stock 10.5 slimline coil but it is definitely more stable and pinpointing indeed is more accurate.

Thank you for letting me comment,
GRB

I have a SE with the platypus coil , i was out sat. in a old park and found a BB yes a BB at 7 to 8 " i could not believe this coil is that sensitive, i love this coil it should come on the SE from the factory.

happy hunting.

....and does he get paid to write these tests?

I've heard the slimline coil is closer to crap than cannon fire. Back when the platypus came out no one was really that impressed over the standard 10.5" Explorer coils. The platypus is probably a decent coil but only looks great when compared to something not so hot.
