I didn't post this yesterday because I thought it was just another harness bit (gag loop) which I have dug several of before. A little research shows me that this is in fact a sword hanger! It make's sense as well because the area I was hunting was a Victorian military post which would date this piece. I now consider yesterday a very successful hunt!!

Looks like a definate match. Great find! looks in great shape to. maybe youll find the sword? Good luck on your next dig. :headbang:

If that's made of iron it sure is in good shape. Must be an alloy of some sort ?

Congrats on your being able to ID it romeo! :notworthy:
Looks to still have some of the plating left on it!

I'm pretty sure that it is iron...it was found in very sandy ground...

The harness bits that look like that are always one piece, so that's not a surprise.

Nice one...building your museum on piece at a time.. :icon_thumright:

Yeah...that didn't even occur to me when I dug it. I was throwing it in the bucket with the other buckles when I saw one of the gag loops I found in the past and put 2 and 2 together.

Success is right, that's a cool find romeo.
