What you have is a Potosi minted 2R. The assayer is Juan Ximenez de Tapia (T). The trouble with giving an exact date is that he served as assayer off and on throughout the early history of the Potosi mint. The latest he served was 1648.

Further study of the devices might be able to nail down a specific time period of his numerous service periods. As I look closely and compare characteristics, I will give my best guess as from the period 1629 - 1639.

Yes, Tapia actually had three tenures as assayer (give or take a year or two) 1st: 1618-1623; 2nd: 1627-1639; and 3rd: 1644-1648. He was the assayer for both Felipe III and IV. What makes the ID more difficult is that F III used at least 5 different "Coats of Arms" and F IV also used at least 5 different Coats of Arms. In my next life, I may study those differences.
Don.....

Damn I was close :) ... not bad for not looking it up yet... just checked to see if anyone posted the dates yet and was gonna go check it out.
I must say this boat... killer little coin man.

So I guess we can narrow it down to 1618 - 1648. Thanks guys.
