I found it on the side of an eroded ridge, deep in the woods of central Mississippi. It's similar in size and shape to a Confederate Enfield round. The hole is perfectly bored and extends half way into the object. The top is round and flat. The bottom is more oval. Any ideas?

Initially looks like an unfinished bead. The size is too small for a banner-stone. The hole mechanics look reed drilled, but it's too small for that. It doesn't look like a flint drilled hole to me? Can you look into the hole and see any indicators as to how the hole was made?

It's a cool find either way.

that would be a pretty uninteresting bead for all the work that has gone into it already. Hard to imagine it was tossed aside too. Lost while being worked and unfinished?...boy that would have pissed me off. Seems to be too small to be anything but a bead however.

At that size I would say it's an unfinished Bead. You can see where they tapped the other end to start the drilling. Very nice find.

I go along with Reaper that's is an unfinished bead. I would go back and check that spot real good. That is a great find:notworthy:They would always drill from one end and then go from the other end.

My vote is for an unfinished bead as well. Nice find for sure.

Thanks, all. I agree, an unfinished bead.
