It's a leather rivet

Confirming... yes, it is a brass or copper rivet used for connecting two (or more) thick layers of leather. The specific "form" of yours has been manufactured continuously in America since the Colonial era, and is in fact still being made today. For example, a lot of them were used on horse-harness equipment, which was actually still VERY plentiful through the 1930s... as shown in photos of many US towns at that time. So, to date leather-rivets we have to rely on whatever is known about the time-period of the dig site, Unfortunately, most old sites (even deep in the woods) have been at least "somewhat" contaminated by later occupation or visitation, or trash-dumping.
