Coins are harder to come by now, as we plot the outer edges of the site.

24 Roman coins in about 4 hours.

Nice Army Button

1852 Silver Sixpence

A Roman Dagger Pommel & another possible one or a locking pin :dontknow:
I think really you can't rule out any part of that field, it's going to be a long winter for you and dad :o

I can't imagine finding 24 ancient coins in four hours and then saying "they're hard to come by". That's just amazing. I just want ONE coin older than 1849. Preferably 1799 or older. Great job Crusader.

Its 100 acre field, so might take some years. We need a deep plough on this one. Our proirities will soon switch to our other 2 roman sites we discovered last year.

24 roman coins and a 1852 silver sixpence and "the coins are harder to come by now"?

I call it a good day if I find 10 clad coins. :D

Nice hunt. I too will be glad when they plow this site. I still say we will see some great finds here.

yeap.

Nice Finds Cru, nice Army button too. Which are the pommels, those two/three things in the last photo?
I would have thought they are drawer pulls or that sort of thing...
I have never seen such pommels, can you show me a photo with these on a knife?

The top two in that photo might be. The bottom one is a failed effort, I think. It looks like a blob of waste bronze but with far too much shape.

I have seen photo's of these in books, but had a look & can't find them right now. Can't find any on-line either. They are bronze with a residue of an iron pin in the centre. Definately Roman (100%), however they maybe part of a locking mechanism although they are not similar to the published examples I have.

Above is recorded as a possible Roman Knife Pommel, although they are unsure as well, it was at a excavation on a Roman Site. (Only similar, but you get the idea)

OK Cru understand. I will look around for a photo of this sort, and let you know what I find (if anything!), thanks.

See above, I amended.

Always interesting to what you find! HH, Mike
