Went to my Bennington Battlefield permission property today and went along a little river that runs through it and this screamed in my ear. Anybody have any idea what it might be? You know what I'm hoping for but not holding my breath...heh. Thanks for looking...

I want it to be a bayonet but looking on google, i am pretty positive it is not. :( Any other thoughts?

It will be interesting to see what others say about it. It's nothing I recognize.

Looks like a old cut nail??????????

Maybe a short picket pin without the ring. You may want to get it into a electrolysis tank which will save whatever it is and give you better detail.........rust never sleeps.

I agree with villagenut that picket pin is the strongest possibility.....these were prevalent during the Civil War (to tie up the horses) and typically had a round ball top. Hard to tell if yours has the typical round top.

Was the land farmed? It looks like a tine off a harrow.

The land was farmed and i can see it being either a picket pin or a harrow tine. I do think it's a bit to big for a cut nail but it does have a very similar shape of one.
