Can't remember how far back that was a pretty frequent occurrence getting a Buffalo nickle. Maybe 50 years ago they became less and less and by then most were almost dateless or completely dateless. Last silver I got in change back that I recall was in the mid 1990s in a bar in Phoenix. The barmaid dropped the change on the bar and that quarter made a distinct sound that cought my attention. Showed it to the fella I was enjoying happy hour with and he'd never heard that a silver quarter was special or that they were once minted upto 1964. I showed him the difference.
