The coinstars around here almost never have anything in them. But yesterday I saw the reflection of a coin in the tray so walked over to check it out. Turns out it had a whole pile of change in there. Nothing old or valuable, and a lot of cruddy zinc lincolns, but still... $2.51 in pocket change, and definitely my biggest coinstar haul. Eight copper lincolns, six nickels, four dimes, and a bunch of zinc cents, some shiny, some crusty.

Without a doubt, those Zincolns were dug up.
Quite possibly. But I've found plenty of them that looked as bad or worse than those that had never been in the ground. Any place change can get wet and forgotten will do it. They just don't make anything to last these days, including the money.

I agree.
I always imagine those nasty ones were in the cup holder and a soda got spilled on them. Then all the other gunk in the cup holder got washed into the soup and then eventually it all dried up. Gross, I know... but some folks are!
